At first glance these figures seem great, and they do represent an increase, I believe with the same cirteria. However, please note that these are figures for "ever breastfed". This means in includes those moms who may put baby to breast opnce or twice in the hospital and then decide to formula feed. I suspect most of these are moms who never really intended to breastfeed, but said they would "try" it to satisfy the real or perceived pressure from someone to breastfeed. It may also include some who did intend to breastfeed but as soon as it didn't go perfectly smoothly as they had imagined, they gave up. The smallest group are probably those very very few who may have discovered legitimate medical reasons for not continuing (We just discovered you have an advanced cancer requiring immediate initiation of some serious chemo.)
