Hello all,
I just visited a mom I worked with over a year ago. After a very rough
start, no latch, posterior tongue tie, release, low milk supply, etc. nursing was
going swimmingly for months and months. Recently, however baby has seemed to
be sucking hard, or somehow differently, and has created what look like
pressure cysts on both nipples. Left is one area, most of the central nipple face,
looks sort of worn off, or it did at that moment, and Right nipple has three
smaller, but distinct areas. There is no bleeding. Baby was asleep when I
got there so nothing to observe during the nursing itself. They do not look like
milk-filled blebs right now, though they may have been at one time. Mom
cannot express anything out of them/though them, and they at this point look more
cell or skin-filled than fluid filled, if that makes any sense. We had
talked on the phone about blebs when she first noted one,she tried changing
position, getting toddler to nurse more gently, heat, massage, etc but after a
month and some shift but not relief ( quite painful during both of the two
nursings this baby does, once before work and once when mom gets home) I wanted to
see exactly what she was describing. Before I saw them I thought it might be
dermatologic, but it really seems mechanical/pressure related. Anyone have
any suggestions/comments on this situation? Mom really wants not to wean for
this.
Peace,
Judy
