What *is* is about books on scheduling a baby?
My heart sinks when I see yet another one. This one promises that
scheduling allows you and the baby to 'sleep all night long.'
Here is the press release:
http://www.send2press.com/newswire/2008-01-0123-006.shtml
It bigs up pumping as an alternative to breastfeeding direct.
http://www.babyscheduleruler.com/ is the website. The writing is
very, very poor....bordering on the illiterate....and some of the
advice is bizarre:
Q. How soon can a baby go outside on walks?
A. They can go outside for daily walks by two weeks old if the
weather permits, other wise wait for one month or so to pass to go
out on long walks. Its just good to take short walks then increase to
long walks as the weeks progress.
Seems to me that people who are nannies/maternity nurses, including
this one who says she is 'nurse to the stars', almost *have* to
promote pumping, as that's the only way they have a job to do. Get
the mother pumping, supervise it, clean the equipment, schedule it,
store it, then feed the baby with it.....it's all so complicated,
people can see they need a lot of hands-on help to do it :(
In the UK at least, maternity nurses won't do any work in the house,
or shopping, or cleaning, and it may be the same elsewhere. When
people ask me about this, I say 'if you have money to pay someone,
get a cleaner'. It really is pointless employing someone to help with
hands-on baby care.
