I've used them and loved them. They work by keeping the nipple slightly
depressed. As such, they won't go on forever, as pressure will build as
you become engorged - so not good if you've skipped feeds etc. Also,
may not be terribly effective if a mother is in full new milk spurt mode.
They are wonderful for being invisible under any top, and you never have
to fish around for them. Washing them is simple as long as you only use
old fashioned soap, as any type of moisturiser or oil will wreck them
utterly. Even lotion on the skin itself. I used washing up liquid...
although even that comes with moisturisers now. They are made from
medical grade silicon, and stick in the same way burns dressings made
from medical grade silicon sticks - by dint of the tiny fronds. Baby
found them wonderful to stick and unstick as a game when he was on the
breast no longer covered by one... *sigh*....
I've heard others say they blamed them for a rise in thrush and plugged
ducts, but it's not my experience.
