As a former student of Dr Dewey, I feel confident that she did not suggest
that levels of iron in human milk are "very, very low" in such a way to
disparage human milk, or to suggest that in any context there would be a
preferable choice over breastmilk. Dr Dewey was a huge mover and shaker
in moving the recommendation for exclusive breastfeeding from four months to
six months; iron levels was a big concern for many people and Dr Dewey was
instrumental in alleviating those concerns. This is only one among many
other contributions she has made, demonstrating over and over how important
breastfeeding is for babies in all contexts. Susan Burger may have more
details.

Also, I can say that having not met anyone *ever* who had breastfed, I may
not have breastfed my children (one of my great parenting joys) if I hadn't
been lucky enough to have her as a teacher. I thank her and my children
thank her.
