Marsha has made many good points on this topic. We also have quite a bit of
discussion in our archives on this, pro and con. I beleive that
practitioners who use this additive, especially with later date premies like
32+ wks, are not well read about the proper use and are getting most of
their info from the formula sales people. (my opinion). I also beleive that
these same practitioners are not well experienced with bf + premies and just
don't trust that bf or even ebm will properly nourish the babies. It is
always good when a practitioner can work with a good LC or other bf advocate
who can show them that the babies thrive when they have good milk transfer
or are comp'ed with ebm. They begin to trust the breastfeeding and the milk.
This has been my experience.
