This technique, under this name, is the brainchild of Lactnetter Jean
Cotterman. She has written extensively about it based on her observations,
study of the anatomy of the nipple-areolar complex, and reflections around
all of that. In Scandinavia it is known as Cotterman's maneuver because the
abbreviation RPS doesn't mean anything in our languages.

Other writers, inspired by Jean's original published ponderings on the
phenomenon of nipple and areolar edema post partum, have described the
technique almost identically, but Jean was first.

I welcome any chance to mention this and to sing her praises because it is
the single clinical technique I use most frequently and I can barely
remember what it was like to work post partum before I heard of RPS.
