hello ann
as i read your post a couple of things ocurred to me:
1st- if they were bottle feeding him and still he was sleepy, could the baby
have some problem, some malformation or something? how does the mother
feel about him, is she relaxed, or has a feeling something's wrong? (i trust a
lot mothers' feelings, although she had a pretty medicalized delivery)
2nd- don't you have those "breastfeeding aids", i don't remember the name in
english, where she could put the baby to the breast while giving him formula
(please, somebody help me explain this)? it is not very difficult to make one,
but maybe you have them ready made...
3rd- if the baby is fine, there is no medical problem, after going home (being in
the hospital is really hard!) skin to skin contact and a lot of relaxation should
help. after all milk production is dependent on hormones. oxytocin is released
just from looking at the baby...

well, i don't know if this helps...
bye
