A good plan would include supporting breastfeeding prior to the emergency
and state in emergency preparedness materials that the way to protect
infants is for the mother to breastfeed (since formula feeding places babies
at great risk in emergencies).
When you put something together please share it.

Subject: Disaster Plan
Well, I have managed to volunteer myself to help with our county's disaster
plan related to breastfeeding. Yesterday I was talking to the county
emergency management assistant director (my husband works in the same
building and we were visiting him for lunch) and I asked just out of
curiosity if
the county had a infant feeding plan in place in case of emergency. He
responded that they "would call La Leche something". Well, of course I said
I
was a Leader and we got talking about breastfeeding in emergencies. His
wife
breastfed all three of their children, so he is very supportive. I
volunteered to
get him any information I can. I have just started searcing for information
and
am wondering if anyone knows of a municipality that has a disaster plan in
place for breastfeeding.
I would really like to see a copy of someone else's plan to see what a good
plan might look like. I have found lots of resources and recommedations,
but
would like to see a final draft.
I have searched the archives and have found good info.
Thank you all in advance for your help.
