Heather, shared an article that writes:

Breast milk, though, is free.

~~
Having recently attended the BABE ( Brooklyn Alliance for Breastfeeding
Empowerment) conference where James Akre spoke, I will mention that James begs
people not to say that "breast milk is free", as well as not saying "Breast
Milk Is Best." Babies breastfeed and do not "pay" for it, but it certainly does
cost mothers in terms of time, energy and effort, needing to eat slightly
more, also sometimes paying for education or assistance, sometimes paying in
terms of lost or reduced income, sometimes paying the price of isolation and
being misunderstood or hassled. It has costs in terms of a woman's
independence, being connected so closely and ongoing-ly to her baby. Now I of course
believe all these investments are well worth it, but I'm not sure we are making
much headway if we say breast milk ( also continuing to make it sound like
more of a product and less of a relationship./process.) is free/has no cost.

Peace,
Judy
