I work in a hospital with about 4,000 deliveries per year. Pacifiers are not available on the Mother/Baby unit. Nonetheless, some of the Mother/Baby staff have been going to the NICU and getting pacifiers from that unit for the breastfed babies on Mother/baby. I am wondering how other hospitals handle pacifier issues--specifically, how hospitals that do not have them available enforce such a policy. We are thinking about pursuing Baby Friendly status and doing so has caused us to look at this issue. Do other (baby friendly) hospitals have the pacifiers for bottle fed babies? or in the NICU? Anyone dealt with them moving from a unit where they are used to a unit where they should be discouraged?
TIA,
Liz, Mills, IBCLC
