Mmm... and do we use "lactation management" to make what we do sound
more legitimate or important? Like domestic engineer as opposed to
homemaker? I have to explain what a Lactation Consultant is to other
people as often as what La Leche League is. For me, it's all about
diminishing the importance of women's ways of knowing and mother's ways
of being by shifting them into job titles, economic activities, or
medical / scientific / technical practices.
Nurture, to mean feed or nourish, is older than nurse in either of its
senses (feed, care for the sick).

c.1330 (n.), "breeding, upbringing," from O.Fr. nourriture
"nourishment," from L.L. nutritia (see nursery). The verb meaning "to
feed or nourish" is attested from c.1430.
Let's all start using nurture instead of breastfeeding. Or
motherbreastnurture. :-) I also like using "mother's milk" when I'm
talking to young people, although I realize that's emphasizing the
product rather than the process. At least the mother is mentioned!
