I have read before that breastmilk storage guidelines are "not
cumulative," in other words you don't get 8 hours at room temp + 8 days
in fridge + 6 months in the freezer, etc.
However I found the Ameda website explicitly states the opposite, that
you CAN safely add together all those storage periods. And that
"research confirms" that spoilage will not occur even when using the
maximum combined time limits. Also that the guidelines are intended to
preserve nutrient quality rather than avoid bacterial growth.

So I am wondering now which is correct -- are the timelines cumulative
or not? And where can I find references to the research documenting
this, as none are given on that page. I searched PubMed and JHL but
didn't find what I was looking for.
Thanks!
