Thanks to all that have replied on and off the site. Yes, I am consulting with
TWO IBCLC'S since the very beginning. I am a peer couselor but a friend of
over 15 years, I would NEVER do anything that will cause harm to mother or
child. I am the ONLY bf support she has at the moment. She is receiving
formula and of course using it, so that's another battle. If I am not sure or
don't know, I definitely don't think twice about consulting with someone more
experienced... hence the posting on LACTNET.

One person mentioned stress. I have done further research and believe she is
suffering from an inhibited let down. The amount of stress she has endured
during her pregnancy and thereafter has been tremendous. She is also
suffering from mild post partum depression. Someone else mentioned reverse
softening and I will definitely relay the message. She pumped a bit today and
since the bottle and shield has been given since the beginning, he's struggling
a bit with a bare nipple.

There was no epidural, IV, medications, etc. I was present at the birth and
she had the baby at a birthing pavillion. It was all natural. We did skin-to-
skin and tried to latch him on without the shield first. The last resort was the
shield especially since the birthing center did not have pumps. This would've
help pull the nipple out.

Thank you all, once again. I truly am grateful. This has been a challenging,
yet educational experience.
