I have experienced breast pain with these characteristics, too.  I 
believe that it was mastitis because it was localized in one quadrant 
of one breast and very painful, hot, extremely tender to the touch, 
hurt to nurse, etc.  I did not have any palpable lump(s) either.

Self-care measures (incl. frequent nursing, as much as I could 
tolerate and/or my child would cooperate) worked, but gradually.  It 
was a week or so before the pain stopped.  When the pain had lessened 
from 'excruciating' to merely 'hurts a lot' I did some massage and I 
think that helped.  The area remained tender for another week or so 
afterwards.

This mother's symptoms fit with my understanding and experience of 
mastitis.  It sounds as if the keflex is helping and she may be on 
the tail end of this incident.  If her experience is like mine, her 
breast may be sore for awhile yet.
