Sounds like she is making great progress.
Sore nipples with pumping when one has not been pregnant is typical. The
hormones that make everything stretchier are just not there, but do kick
in as milk production increases. I usually recommend starting with one
minute pumping sessions, very frequently through the day for moms
inducing lactation, and then working up very gradually to prevent sore
nipples. Hand expression is very effective too!
Also, remember what the PIS is designed/manufactured for: moms with an
established supply who are going to be separated from their baby for up
to 3 feedings a day. Mom might be much better off with a rental pump.
