Hi All,
I have not had a mother react to the flanges but I have had some mothers react like this when they were using purified lanolin on their nipples/areolas and washing their pump parts with Dawn dish washing liquid soap. This soap has some kind of emulsifier (?) that breaks up fat in your dish water. I also suspect that they may have been using too much soap.
Did you also know that Bag Balm and Aquaphor have lanolin in them? I would guess that the lanolin has not been purified and would increase the risk of an allergic reaction. I have started becoming allergic to Aquaphor after using it for years. I don't seem to react to the purified lanolin.
I also usually see blisters on the tips of the nipples only when there has been excessive suction applied during pumping. Sincerely, Rachel
