I have permission to share this here and ask for some ideas.
I know a Perinatal Education Coordinator who is trying to get her hospital to
have a dedicated IBCLC position. Right now there are IBCLC's working in the
hospital but in the role of a nurse. She recently submitted a proposal which
was well received. She has now been asked to submit financial data - some
type of cost/benefit ratio. Her director is requesting data on what it would
cost (ie: salary) vs. the benefit (quantified). Her proposal delineated the
benefit to the hospital in terms of patient satisfaction, improved breastfeeding
outcomes and increased return or referred business, however it did not
translate this into dollars and cents.
Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to present this?
Thank you,
Heather LaRosa RN, IBCLC
