All the suggestions of pain/injury are good and hope this can be ruled
out or discovered soon. Because baby needs relief fast and because the
picture could be multi-cause (making it so extreme and difficult to
figure out), I see no reason for mom not to try avoiding cow's milk.
Reactions to CM are so common and can be so uncomfortable (and
original injury may be healing but sthis taking it's place) that there's no
reason to not try to see if this doesn't help give baby at least partial
relief, unless the stools are not loose (not sure from your description),
baby is not spitting up, no blood in stool (with guaiac stool test), no
rashes, and you're sure there's "no" excessive gas (and then I'd still try
for a few days myself --- nothing lost). Is she also trying to avoid the
common "gas foods" of brocolli etc?
My little guy screamed and yelled and fussed at my nipples from hour 1.
He may have been mad about something else to begin with but the
only thing that ever eventually kept him a totally happy camper was
food avoidance. (The major crying did not begin for 7 days; he slept the
first week, had to keep him awake to feed, but was probably sleeping
off the drugs). Then if I'd accidentally eat much of a food known to
bother him, he'd drink a bit and then begin screaming and fussing at my
breast again. I guess his little instincts learned to taste it and know...
On the other hand, sucking can provide so much pain relief, and he
learned this quickly. He became the expert at non-nutritive sucking and
would do it around the clock if allowed, before I learned all the foods
that needed avoidance. "Your" baby here seems to be torn between
breast sucking and not and this is what makes me think he might know
he's reacting (or there's cervical/clavical/mouth pain).
Hugs to you, baby and mom.
Best, linda
