"I would tell the mom that almond milk is not an appropriate substitute for
human milk or for formula milk, and that she should discuss this with her
doctor. Perhaps she could get a prescription for banked human milk."
But, Kathleen, the baby is 12 mos. At this age, milk of any kind (except momma milk) is just another food.
Hemp is not allergenic, can be purchased organically and has a high level of EFAs, is also very high in calcium,
contains all 10 essential amino acids and for those interested in the environment, it is a more sustainable crop than
soy and certainly more sustainable than the cow milk industry. She can also make it herself and dilute it
it as much as she wants. I agree with Judie, though--coconut milk (or coconut water) is what I use in my kids'
smoothies Coconut water is similar to human plasma and has a history of being used in emergency blood transfusions.
I think if the mom really wants to go about it this way, I would suggest the coconut water--no dilution needed. This little
babe is already consuming far too many unhealthy foods--cow milk products and wheat--the coconut milk would be a benefit.
