We don't have any NEC in our NICU, and our babies most often get pumped breastmilk to eat, whenever it's available. When we have a small baby (I forget what weight cut off), we administer Primadophilus (from Nature's Way, can get it at Vitamin Shoppe)powder, one tiny scoop twice daily in the milk. This prevents NEC, I've not seen a single NEC case in my NICU in over 3 years. We used to use lactobacillus, but we were weighing it out, and it was much harder to do so.

So there may be a much simpler, more effective, and cheaper way to solve this problem!
