When my daughter was newborn (47 years ago!) not sterilizing was the hot new
thing. Other than multiple ear infections (which I now realize was due to
being bottle fed) she never had any GI problems etc. I honestly didn't
realize that bottles were still being sterilized. No one in our part of
south Jersey USA does it. They even make little containers to put the
nipples in for the dishwasher. Are my perceptions real for most of US? I
must confess, I never even mention sterilizing bottle etc., to my patients,
except no boiling if baby has thrush! I never even ask how parents are
doing their bottles :-( I just assume (utoh) that they are washing and
rinsing the bottles. Will have to ask at the hospital about what they rec!
