I consulted with a mom who took a free breastfeeding class at a doctor's
office. She said the class turned out to be more of a formula promotion
class. All the breastfeeding handouts were from a formula company. The
instructor told the participants she was a breastfeeding expert and offered her
services to doctor offices and baby fair/events. She said formula feeding was
recommended when breastfeeding as it "prevents" jaundice. She said giving
water and formula was fine. There were several other misleading and
incorrect "how to" statements offered. She also gave out formula coupons. I
saw the handouts and coupons. Has anyone heard of this going on in their
community? I am concerned this may be a formula company supported
service, ""free breastfeeding classes by a "breastfeeding expert."
