Hello Celine - I'm an RN as well, but I'm also a brand new La Leche
League Leader. I never worked with breastfeeding moms as an RN, most of
what I've learned about breastfeeding, I've learned nursing my own
kids. I have to change my role now too, but by stepping right out of RN
mode and into Leader mode. Since I cannot even tell a mom it's OK to
take a Tylenol (instead I can tell her it's on the AAP approved list and
Hale rates it as an L1), it's going to be quite the switch.
But worth it.
Best of wishes in your new journey. It sounds like you are a very
caring, observant and dedicated practitioner, and I know you will be
able to help lots of mom-baby pairs. :)
Sincerely,
Liz Cammin, RN, LLLL and tandem nursing mom to my 2.5 year old son and 4
mo old daughter
