"SO, if any hospitals are labeling breastmilk as a biohazard, they are
doing
it out of ignorance of what those three eminent authorities are
recommending."
Jan Barger, RN, MA, IBCLC

Thank you Jan for your evidence based response and I agree. As soon as
I can get time to sit down and pull up those sites, I will put the issue
on my to do list but I have to say that working with moms and babies,
parent and staff education will be higher on my priority list. Again,
in my opinion, only staff have access to where the human milk in our
facility is stored on the various units so I disagree that there is any
harm to breastfeeding mothers and babies in our facility. I have never
seen any staff member with masks/gloves/gowns when accessing human milk
so again, this is not a battle worth initiating when I have many other
things that I can do to help hospitalized and seriously ill
breastfeeding babies. In the last few years our facilty, physicians and
nurses have made many changes for the benefit of breastfeeding mothers
and babies with a continual effort to move forward.

Speaking of helping breastfeeding babies... does any one have any
protocol or resources that I can use for fortifying moms milk with her
own pumped milk using skimmed off "cream'? I am aware of the
crematocrit machine that is now on the market. I am wondering if anyone
has a protocol for something less high tech.
