Hi everyone,
I have searched in the archives and am not finding what I want. I need to
know what the latest research is saying on breastfeeding while on methadone.
I have the research from JHL but it is from 2004. Is there any more up to date
stuff out there ? We have a physician from one of our methadone clinics in the
area stating that
"breastfeeding is fine until baby is six months, then baby should be weaned as
volume of milk is high enough that methadone will affect baby. Also advised
mother should avoid breastfeeding for 2 hours after she has been given her
methadone dose."
This makes no sense to me but I would like to have some up to date research
in my hand when dealing with this. Most of the information I have read deals
with the first weeks of breastfeeding. I know we should be asking for her
research for this statement but I would like to make sure I have all the current
knowledge myself beforehand.
Thanks in advance
