Dear Friends:
Our resident talents have shared with us about research growing and
changing. Thank you.
I think other reasons there are so many different findings is that the
perceptions and intention of the researchers guide the creation of the study and
the analysis of the data. Remember the study by Walshaw et al that showed
"traditional methods" of breastfeeding resulted in greater weight gain than
cue-based feeding.(Arch Dis Child Feb 2007) See MIDIRS for a very interesting
dissection of Walshaw's article by Woolridge and Ingram ( JUne 2007 MIDIRS)
and the subsequent rebuttal by Walshaw et al (Sept 2007 MIDIRS).
As breastfeeding is a relationship, and differs for each dyad, it is not
possible for there to be the sort of precision that one would find in a book
about car engine repair or some other mechanical process. So there can't be the
definitive text.
very grateful for the fabulous texts we do have!
