Debbie,
You asked re Sheila Humphrey's suggestion for another herb when fenugreek is
not effective. Might it have been milk thistle? Dosage is "1 heaping
teaspoon (3-5 grams) freshly chopped seeds in 5 oz boiling water, steep 20-30 min.
Take up to 5-6 times a day."--direct quote from her book. I don't have her
info on tincture use but have the following from two different sources: 3-5 ml
tincture, 3x/day or caps, 500 mg 3x/day per Mechell Turner, IBCLC and herbalist,
and a different doseage for caps of 200mg, 3x/day per LC colleague who's
told me this is from Dr Low Dog conference.
The other herb that Sheila discussed when I heard her a few yr ago at LLL
conference is shatavari but I've yet to learn whether a dosage has been decided
upon; it is listed in Sheila's book as galactagogue and there's been past
discussion on the BF herb site re its use.
Hope this helps. Warmly, Barbara Latterner, BSn, RN, IBCLC
