I think there is more to it than that biological factor - the teens I
have known who have breastfed beyond the first week or so have indeed
been wonderful breastfeeders with no worries about 'have I got
enough?', but I think it's at least partly because the teens who do
this are already strong enough and confident enough to go against the
norm. So they are different *emotionally* and *psychologically* from
other teens, and probably stronger and more confident than many of
their older counterparts.
I see this strength and confidence in peer supporters, many of whom
choose to breastfeed against the social norm.
The most important body part involved in breastfeeding is the attitude :)
And the great thing about attitude is that it is a highly infectious
disease - the waverers and the not-so-confidents can catch it really
bad!
