I agree that breastfeeding during minor painful procedures will do the job better than just sugar water and will be safer to protect the breastfeeding relationship.
But, being not used to male infant circumcision (is only done for religious reasons around here and thus later), I do have a question about this procedure. Am I right in understanding that the sugar water or nursing is the sole anesthesia for this surgical intervention?

it works wonders - calm baby at breast (we do "shots" in the baby's thigh
rather than the arm which would make it easier to nurse) vs. screaming baby
on exam table.
