Lara and others,

I'd been sitting on that post for nearly two months trying to decide if I
should put it up or not. Since I've always pushed the HMBANA milk banks at
The Lactivist (I'm a donor myself) I get frequent emails from moms looking
to donate milk. In the last three months I've been had a ton of emails from
moms that have cleared the screening process, received their starter packets
and were shocked to discover that the IBMP is associated with Prolacta.

These moms email me asking if they are now obligated to send their milk
since Prolacta has shipped them pumps and bottles.

I've spent about two months digging up quotes and data from their site and
from various news articles as well as from emails that my readers have
exchanged with Prolacta. I've tried to contact them many times myself, but
they will not return my emails. (Though it would only take a quick Google of
my site to see that I've already spoken out against them, so I'm not
surprised they would ignore me.)

When I saw the Mothering email this morning, I decided to go ahead and push
it live.

I think that the donor moms are owed some serious explanations in all this.
Based on my research, Prolacta is either severely misrepresenting things in
their public statements, or they are sitting on a gold mine of milk that was
donated by women thinking that their milk would go straight to needy babies
in Africa.

I do hope that LACTnetters will join me in demanding a public response from
Prolacta on this issue. To think that they could be sitting on $13 million
dollars worth of breast milk because of what many would dub deceptive
marketing practices?

It makes me ill.
