I was plagued with one sided eczema on the left areola for months, until I weaned from that breast at 14 months. My daughter kept aggravating it every time she would nurse from that breast, despite using cortisone cream. (I continued to nurse from the other breast for another *5 years* with no problem. Phew!) I did see a dermatologist because I was concerned about Paget's. She told me the cortisone cream was essentially diagnostic - if the patch had not resolved on the cream, she would have biopsied it.
