I thank those who have taken the time to respond.
Robin, Believe me I have thought about those of you who work in the hospital
– you don’t have a choice in the matter when it comes to the gift bags. I
do. That is my dilemma. I have no problem tossing my brochures on their
counter – but I was seriously considering doing a bit more than just that.
I was going to consider utilizing them for my peer counseling program among
other things since they do work directly with my target audience. I was
considering inviting them to be a part of it – by perhaps sponsoring to some
degree in return for more marketing for their business. How cool for them
to be partnering with another business that is promoting such a great
program for the moms in the area! Certainly makes them look good! However,
I certainly cannot do that if they are promoting the use of ABM by giving
out those darn bags!
Those who know me are surprised I would even have a 2nd thought about
working with an organization who so happily gives out ABM gift bags…they are
surprised I didn’t just say “you can have me when you ditch the bags.” :-)
I also am concerned by the outright denial of any risks for 3D and 4D
ultrasounds. I have read the FDA info on the subject – I have my own
personal concerns with routine ultrasounds and what those sound waves may do
to babies’ cell structure/development and potential for injury from
ultrasounds done by poorly trained persons – not radiological techs – people
who truly know how to use this stuff. Had I been told, there are risks and
here are what they are – informed consent type info – then I’d be fine with
the ethics there – but I wasn’t and therefore am not. Those who know me
even a tiny bit know I take professional and personal ethics to heart.
Robin – you and I both know how anal retentive I am! Classic Type A
personality – who has learned to relax a bit…LOL! But, it’s OK – someone
has to be! It might as well be me! At least I know I do my job very well
and I work very hard to do the best I possibly can. Yeah, sometimes I
irritate myself that I can’t just ‘let it go’ once in a while, but is it
such a bad thing in this case? I guess the whole ‘feed my family’ thing
comes in where the aspect of ABM being so pervasive that I wonder is there
anyone (other business) out there I can join forces with (who is not an LC)
who gets the whole ethical issue with the gift bags and promotion of ABM
like we do. I find one who I think may just be that and yet again am
disappointed. I truly thought that since one of the owners was openly BF
friendly that there would not be that issue. I know – naïve…
