I am working with a mom and baby  who have an interesting situation.  Baby
has a moderately tight sublingual frenulum (hope that is what it is
called!).  There is NO webbing - NO noticeable frenulum.  However, baby has
a HIGH palate and his tongue notches, does not elevate well and moves back
and forth when trying to nurse.  Mom has lovely breasts that, with attention
paid to the latch, can nurse this baby with no pain - but mom must have the
latch perfect.

 

I know that these types of frenulums can be clipped - but how extensive is
the 'job'?  I know that when there is clear webbing you clip that.  But what
about when the frenulum is tight on the tongue?  It looks like a white
rubber band lining the underside of the tongue and feels like one too.  How
do I encourage the ENT's here to clip this without putting baby under - or
can I?  Mom also has the same exact frenulum.diagnosed only after she went
in to get a tongue ring and was told no way due to the complications she
would have due to her tongue tie.
