A pregnant client who has hidradenitis suppurativa was recently referred to
me. I hadn't heard of this syndrome before, and am wondering if anyone has
dealt with a patient who has this and is breastfeeding.

Susan,

I posted you privately, so I could send you a direct link to sites but since
this condition was new to me, I'm sure it will be for other Lactnetters, as
well. I looked up the condition and discovered that "hidradenitis is
inflammation of the apocrine sweat glands in the skin around the anus, armpits and
genitals, resulting in chronic abscesses or sinuses." (taken from
www.healthy.net/search/content/articles_wddty/infected_glands4649.htm or
http://tinyurl.com/zmusag )

Of interest, from this same information, is that hidradenitis may be
associated with PCOS and insulin resistance because it is androgen related, and
treatment of these underlying conditions may be necessary. If one googles the
disorder and alternative treatment there are homeopathic and complimentary medicine
methods of treatment which appealed to me since it is reported to be
difficult to treat with lancing frequently the common approach; sounds awful.

And thank you, Susan, for your post for in my researching the above disorder
I found something re MRSA treatment that may help a case I'm currently
involved with. Ah, the beauty of Lactnet.
