I'm sitting here is shock with you, Jaye, I really am. I'm so sorry for this
mother, and I totally understand why you went ahead and banged your head
against a wall.
I'm interested to hear what others suggest, but here is what I would do: I
would simply send the exact same kind of report to the midwives as I normally
would (copy the doctor, too), with a VERY. STRONG. EMPHASIS. on the
missed infection and the poor advice.
In other, treat it as fact and put it in the official report. This will become part
of YOUR record, part of the MIDWIVES records, and part of the DOCTORS
records. I guarantee they will get the message, and even if they choose not
to address it with you personally, they will never do it again.
Then, just to be sure, you can follow it up in a week or so with a mailing to
them that includes info about LC and when to refer and how mothers should
not suffer through pain.
