I have a pt with a baby who is 4-5 weeks old. The first time I saw
them the chief complaint was severe nipple pain. Basic latch
techniques helped immensely, as did breast compression to keep baby
from pulling off. Mom has a good milk supply. As is often the case,
it didn't go as well when they went home. Mom took a break for a
couple days, which helped the soreness, but baby repeatedly pulls off
and squirms - most, but not all the time. He did the squirming thing
in my office. I've had success with mom going off dairy with a couple
other babies that did that, but that has not made a difference in
this case.
Any ideas? It didn't appear to be overactive MER.
