Dear friends,
I'm way behind on reading (well, just 2 days, but that reaches the 100+ posts), but wanted to get in to this topic.
In my more grumpier moments I suspect some health care settings of trying *anything* in order to avoid to have babies just breastfeed frequently. They just don't want to give in, it seems.
Really, using these ''modern'' formulas to clear baby's guts is like using a shovel to dust your livingroom: It will probably get the mess out, but at what cost?
Warmly,
Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in southern Netherlands where winter finally came to pay a short visit

Nothing is ever purely wrong. There are always shades of grey.
Formula reduces bilirubin? Thank goodness the emergency system works for
babies that need it.
Formula also sets genetically susceptible babies up for chronic disease.
Diabetes. Obesity.
YUK!
Giving the babies ANY fluid with fat and protein in it would reduce
bilirubin. Other's species milks, for example. Except that other species' milk
kills our babies, unless it is processed in a factory; then it merely makes them
sick.
Does that mean that any other fluid is okay?
