Hi Denise, sorry about your sore mommy. If it were yeast, we go by dr Hales
book and give 200mg stat, then 100 -150 daily x21 days. So if yeast were
the case, and it does sound suspcious, i believe she was undertreated. From
what I have personnally seen is it takes about 5 days for some relief. In the
meantime, I usually have them start with APNO, and/or gentian violet until the
diflucan kicks in. She certainly could have several things going on at the
same time. Funny they can't feel a blocked duct, maybe its really deep. If
you can get your hands on a copy of Dr Hales protocol for deep ductal
candidas, you will see what I mean about underprescribing. I have had a
nurse friend who just had her 3rd. ....Had yeast with everyone and never
treated it because they didn't know what they had. BB had no signs in
mouth. I helped her right after delivery of her last BB. In two days you could
see the tell tale sign of pink cracked yeasty nipples. When I asked her about
is she said " I always get pink sore and cracked and just live with it" IN some
women it goes dormat then when that warm moist "sweet" enviroment
becomes ripe, the yeast come back. We talked to MD who took one look at
her and put her on the above course of diflucan. Yeast free now. So, maybe
you could try some APNO, mom can get it otc, and/or gentian violet. Dr
Newman has a wonderful page on diagnosing nipple pain. I would earge you
to look at his website www.breastfeedingonline and go to Jack Newman
handouts. He has wonderful info for reasons for sore nipples. Apologies if you
have already "been there and done that". If it is Candida, Gentian usually
gives an immediate result in relief.
Good Luck
Wishing her pain free nursing
Robin
