I have had a client whose premature baby supposedly had a reaction to
her taking codeine for her c-section pain after he was discharged from
the hospital. I don't know the details but I think it stopped breathing
or was constantly crying. So of course she stopped breastfeeding. I kind
of wondered how much codeine she was taking as he had no reactions when
she was pumping her milk while he was in the NICU. Also, many people are
allergic or have problems with codeine. Reactions like hyperactivity,
rashes, and vomiting happen to various members of my family including
me. This may be one of those cases where they initiate a lawsuit and the
manufacturer settles just to get rid of it. Especially since the data on
the drug in Hales is not contraindicated by the AAP.

I didn't know this had caffeine in it???? I am always told codeine is so
sedating but it makes me hyperactive and unable to sleep. If it has
caffeine, that is why it makes me so awake feelings!!!

Lauri, where did you see that information? Thanks, Kathy Eng
