I am curious why this job requires a RN, and IBCLC is just preferrable?
How many RN shad education in nursing school about setting up peer support groups, how to develop eductional materials and programs, develop and conduct outreach activities in the community, develop a business plan for lactation sales, provide consultation to high risk lacatation patients, understand and be able to conduct donor milk banking procedures, etc. I am not trying to insult nurses, however I believe there is a better fit for this job. As a Health Educator, I have had education, as well as experience in all these areas. I would never attempt to do the job as a RN, and I respect their knowledge base and experiences. I just don't understand what education and experience an RN brings to this position that is unique. I haven't seen many nursing schools in America that provides lactation education, as well as conducting community needs assessments, program development, educational material development, grantwriting, fundraising, and resource development, and the many other aspects that would make this a successful program. I wish that facilities would open their minds to realizing that other professionals have unique talents, experiences, and education to bring to the team. With the nursing shortage, this would especially help free up their talents and expertise for nursing needs. I guess what I am asking is that facilities consider all the different disciplines in establishing their healthcare teams.
