I was approached with a general question about milk production decreasing
due to 'having to add Enfamil lipil A.R. with half expressed breastmilk' for
infant reflux. This was a 'pedi order' per the mother. This was not a
consult just a general question in front of a store (with the new formula in
the buggie) about how to increase her milk supply back to what it was before
adding the 1/2 formula. Has anyone else heard of this treatment for reflux
with a (previously) exclusive breastfeeding thriving infant. My hands felt
tied, as this was not a consult, and I was not in a position to contradict
the order without a history but really have to doubt the risk/benefit of
this plan of care.(increasing breastmilk production was reviewed and my
telephone number to discuss this further/attend breastfeeding support
meeting,etc..no call yet).
