When I gently suggested these things, response from medical staff ranged from snorts to laughter. Common reasons for not "allowing" mom to BF during procedures or shots: 1) baby may bite mom, 2) baby will associate the breast with the pain and refuse the breast afterwards (but they don't eat poorly afterwards? huh?), 3) mom will get upset watching the circ and interfere or move baby, causing problems or injury to baby, or 4) it just won't work and 5) "this is the way we've always done it."

   I have yet to convince anyone that a circ should be performed with the

 Moms seem interested when I tell them to put the baby to
