Excellent post!
As you know, I have been in contact with many, many moms over the years, who
have experienced NIP harassment and discrimination first-hand at various
restaurants, daycare, gyms, pools, schools, etc.
I am always struck by how upset and violated these women feel. They do feel
assaulted. When women are trying to nurse "discreetly" it is those
confrontations that they are trying to avoid.
Morgan, thanks for providing a whole new level of understanding to what
women understand and "know" about breastfeeding in public.

We have to start talking about safety, threat,
feeling intimidated and exposed. An emotional exposure, only
tangentially linked to a physical one. We have to acknowledging we are
talking about genuine anxiety about being condemned for nursing. There
is no sliding scale of 'acceptable' nursing (discreet) and 'not
acceptable' (indiscreet). There is only how safe and secure each mother
feels in each situation.
