And to add to the Taking Charge of Your Fertility book suggestion, she
could look at charting software on the computer. I personally own the
Ovusoft software that is put out by the Taking Charge people. There is
charting software available that is free. The Ovusoft one (and I expect
some of the free ones will do this too) asks if you are charting to
avoid or achieve pregnancy. As you go along putting in your basal temps
and other observations, it plots out the days where intercourse is
recommended to optimize your chance of conceiving. And for every
instance of intercourse that you put down on the chart (for Ovusoft,
anyway), it tells you what your chances are of conceiving in that
particular instance (rating from "poor" to "best" or something like
that). And when it realizes that you're pregnant it tells you and tell
you what your due date is and the 2 week range (a week on either side of
the due date calculated from conception, not LMP) during which you can
expect to give birth. I found it very useful especially since i Have
long cycles with ovulation on day 24 and therefore that blasted
pregnancy wheel is 10 days off. My first two babies were 10 days early
and of course an OB would think they were right on time. My most recent
baby was only 3 days early and by the wheel's standards she was six days
late! I had OB care for prenatal even though I give birth at home and
he was very good about believing me about my July 29 due date and
ignoring the July 21 due d ate that the nurse checking me in kept using
based on my LMP.
Just my anecdotal two cents about conception while nursing. I've had
two babies whilst nursing and am currently nursing all three of my children.
