I for one am a big fan of feeding at breast at all possible occasions. Especially for babies who do well at suckling already. But for babies with feeding difficulties it will decrease the risk of getting even worse at breast when other techniques are offered. Ofcouse there will still be the need for working on proper techniques. Getting milk a bit easier (when mom's own supply is not that great) may be a encouragement to increase his efforts at breast.
And I do think that a home-made set is a very well working device for most moms. The Medela SNS that is the only ready to use brand available here is very expensive and many moms experience problems with the tubes or get confused with how to handle the not used tube.

Warmly,

Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in southern Netherlands

(or, more simply, Jack Newman's version with a 5 french feeding tube
in a standard bottle).
Anyway - that's my perspective, but I have very little experience with
this, and would love to hear what others have found using this device.
