I had posted last wk regarding a mother of twins (East Indian), who is having
a difficult time with adequate milk supply. Babies are both latching on
beautifully(now @ the same time), mom is double pumping @ least 5X day
after nursing for 30-45 min with a Symphony pump, she is finishing up Reglan
tx, and concurrently taking fenugreek, prenatal vitamins, iron, & folic acid. She
is still supplementing with formula (per ped ins.). I have encouraged for her to
try to not give the babies the formula following their nursing and just nurse
them again when they give hunger cues, but she & her husband are insistant
that they will cry as if they are starving until they have their "top off" bottle.
(I have been spending an hour each evening at their home, & I have observed
this also) She is only getting about 10cc between both breast when doing the
post nursing pumping. I gave her larger flanges last evening to see if this
makes a difference. Her TSH was normal. She was a infertility pt. Has anyone
experienced problems with infertility pts establishing a good milk supply? I
would appreciate any help!
Thanks!
Pam
