We are revisiting the subject of when breastmilk is considered thawed in our
NICU. I don't think the timing of the 24 hour use of thawed milk should begin
when the milk is moved from the freezer to the refrigerator, but from when it is
actually thawed. Unfortunately I can not find any research or guidelines
defining when the milk is considered thawed. When I posted this question
several years ago I received a couple of opinions ranging from "not until it is
completely liquid" to "when the milk is more liquid than frozen". Does anyone
know somewhere I might find clarification? This is not specifically addressed in
the HMBANA Best Practice guidelines. Thanks in advance for any help you can
offer!
