I think the issue here isn't what age to start solids but how to know when 
solids are appropriate.  There is no set age, only developmental milestones to 
look for.  If an infant can sit with support, shows interest in foods, can take 
food off a spoon and can move food to the back of the mouth and swallow, 
that infant is ready for cereal.  Breastfed infants do need the additional 
nutrients that cereal offers after 6 months of age, but it's always best to 
watch for those developmental signs before starting cereal.
