Dear Jennifer and all others,
while agreeing with all of your remarks, let me remind you that a *medical*
congress is thought, planned, and constructed starting not from the need to
share one's knowledges and achievements, but to promote a brand of a drug,
a surgical technique, some tecnical equipment or company and so forth.
Pharmaceutical and related companies take upon themselves the major burden
of expenses to sustain doctors' fees, their travel expenses, general
organization etc. Education is only a 'side effect' of all this. Since
breastfeeding (or breast-feeding as they say) is not (yet?) associated with
big bucks, you will not see it as a hot topic. We have to be realistic, even
though bombarding them with letters to let them know not only physiology
exists, but there are professionals that deal with it everyday.
Warmly
M.Ersilia Armeni
pediatrician, neonatologist, IBCLC (Rome)
in desperate search of a LC in Moscow (Russia)
